A video announcement from James Gunn, posted to his Twitter earlier today, has DC fans expressing their mixed feelings about changes coming to the superhero universe. But for this horror fan, all I really care about is the Swamp Thing movie in the works.
There is a lot of horror stories to be found in all corners of the DC Universe and it seems that Swamp Thing is the recent favorite, the character getting a quickly cancelled television series back in 2019, before its recent feature film announcement. Set to end what will be Chapter 1 of the DC Universe under Gunn and Peter Safran, the Swamp Thing movie is in good hands, I think, mostly due to James Gunn, and his ties to the Tromaverse.
Back in 2019, a Swamp Thing television series from Len Wiseman and Warner Bros. Television, starring Derek Mears, was abruptly cancelled after its first couple of episodes. The CW show was, in my opinion, enjoyable, and I was happy to see that those in charge of the show, later released the rest of the season.
I don't think the new Swamp Thing movie will be taking any inspiration from The CW television series, and it shouldn't. I'd rather see what James Gunn has in store for this project, again, citing his work in the Tromaverse.
