Warner Bros. gives us our first look at Doctor Sleep, starring Ewan McGregor, coming to theaters this fall, November 8.
In this sequel to Stephen King's 1977 novel 'The Shining,' with snippets from Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece of a film by the same name, we get to know an older Dan Torrance. Haunted by the demons of his past, Dan is sought out by a young Abra Stone, who shares similar powers to Dan. Abra and Dan must rely on each other to survive as they are pursued by a band of traveler/hunters who prey on those with powers much like the mismatched pair share.
Beginning as a screenplay written by Akiva Goldsman, the guy who butchered The Dark Tower, Doctor Sleep would eventually fall into the hands of Mike Flanagan (Gerald's Game, The Haunting of Hill House) who not only rewrote Goldsman's screenplay but then climbed aboard to direct the sequel as well. No stranger to bringing the works of Stephen King alive, Flanagan and his team originally planned to bring the sequel to theaters October 30 but settled for a later date.
The trailer is enough to give any fan of The Shining, what ever the adaptation, chills, as we get brief glimpses of Dan Torrance's past and present. Scenes that look as if they were lifted right from Kubrick's film, entertain the eyes of the viewers as the trailer does its best to hold the story close to its chest.
The story shouldn't be too hard to guess for those that have read the novel or the wiki page, and director Mike Flanagan has stated that this film would be a "direct adaptation of the 2013 sequel novel."
With the release date being a good number of months away, it is safe to say that we probably have a good number of trailers that have yet to be released. Coming to theaters November 8, Doctor Sleep should be another hit movie based off a work by the master of macabre Stephen King.
